What is TESOL?
As you may already know, TESOL stands for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and encompasses what used to be called TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language).
Why do I need Diploma in TESOL?
TESOL course will equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to teach English as a second/foreign language in multiple different levels. What is TEC?
TEC (Teaching English to Children) is an official course hosted by Concordia International College for those aiming to become teachers to young children.
Why do I need Diploma in TEC?

What is Advanced TESOL?

IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, is designed to assess the language ability of candidates who want to study or work where English is the language of communication.
Results
IELTS is designed to assess ENGLISH language skills at all levels. There is no such thing as a pass or fail in IELTS. Results are reported as band scores on a scale from 1 (lowest) to 9 (the highest).

This course is a post graduate program integrating a high quality teacher training course designed with extensive TESOL training to prepare students to become English teaching specialists in a range of special contexts like educational settings, or student variety.
This program is the first course of a two-course sequence, which focuses on effective teaching methods and different approaches. As a result, these lesson plans cover topics that are suitable for all ages, English abilities, and backgrounds, thus creating a classroom environment favorable for learning.
- To acquire a fundamental knowledge of teaching English to speakers of other languages;
- To develop essential practical skills in teaching English to speakers of other languages;
- To provide an overview of language and literacy issues that English learners face;
- To develop a facility for understanding and implementing pedagogic strategies for TESOL.
Students will demonstrate attainment of the above objectives through :
- Develop Reading and Writing strategies and lesson plans;
- Discuss the basic principle of teaching grammar and idioms;
- Discuss the practical issues in regards to writing resume and job interviews.

What is ESL?
ESL stands for English as a Second Language. It is designed to help students improve their English language skills. We utilize the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) to assess students based on 4 skills – Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. Our ESL subjects cover: Integrated ESL, Reading, Speaking and Writing to give students the opportunity to focus on areas where they need the most help with through the assistance of our qualified English instructors. Students enter the program after being placed at the appropriate ESL Proficiency Level, i.e., Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced level.
Why do I need ESL Certification?
The goal of Concordia International College’s ESL program is to elevate the English proficiency skills of our students regardless of their current language abilities. Our ESL Program will equip you with the necessary theory and skills to:
- Help you cope with native English speakers and optimize your campus learning
- Help non-native English speakers to improve their English skills and find productive work that require a good command of the English language
Results
Concordia International College ESL is a program created through an international collaboration of industry experts to help students improve their English language skills whereas :
- After their English proficiency is assessed, students are placed at the appropriate proficiency status and they are taught by qualified English instructors to improve their English language skills.
- Graduates receive a Certificate of Completion every time they complete each English Proficiency Level.
Curriculum
The Concordia International College ESL Program is composed of 10 levels. Each level includes face-to-face lecture, learning materials, quiz and assignment. After the lecture, students should take the quiz and complete the assignment. Assessments of the quizzes and assignments will be reported to each student individually.Course Outline
The 10-level ESL Course outline is detailed below :
Beginner (Integrated ESL)
Level 1: Basic survival language
- This level provides basic survival language in carefully graded exercises for students at the post-literacy level. It includes lessons involving numbers and letters, money, telling time, day, dates and the weather
- Grammar is integrated to help students increase their language accuracy
- Several new activities, games and opportunities for speaking encourage maximum student participation.
Level 2: Basic functional language
- This level reviews and expands on survival themes and provides ample practice with basic functional language in all skills areas. Themes include family, daily activities, food, the body and health, the home, shopping clothing and jobs
- This level also covers the development of listening skills, the acquisition of new vocabulary, the development of the child’s literary competence, the communicative exchange involved in stories, motivation and stimulation and development of the imagination.
- It is designed to develop oral communication skills and build learner confidence.
- Grammar is integrated to help students increase their language accuracy.
- Several new activities, games and opportunities for speaking encourage maximum student participation.
Level 3: Basic vocabulary
- This level provides basic vocabulary for the beginner in familiar areas such as jobs, food and the home, plus verbs, prepositions and adjectives
- It enables students to meet beginning-level standards for reading, writing, and oral language
- It is designed to develop oral communication skills and build learner confidence and also provides an enrichment approach to language and literacy development.
Intermediate (Integrated ESL)
Level 4 : Communicate based on situation and purpose
- This is a multi-level course in English as a second or foreign language for young adults and adults
- It covers the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, as well as improving pronunciation and building vocabulary.
- The primary goal of this course is to teach the ability to communicate according to the situation, purpose, and roles of the participants.
- It enables students to meet early intermediate standards for reading, writing, and oral language
- It is designed to develop oral communication skills and build learner confidence.
Level 5 : Structured approach to teaching grammar
- This level that combines a structured approach to teaching grammar with stimulating activities that help to make grammar accessible to students of all abilities
- It includes clear and simple explanations of grammatical terms and rules and covers a wide range of activities designed to help improve students’ writing abilities.
- It enables students to meet early intermediate-level standards for reading, writing, and oral language.
- It is designed to develop oral communication skills and build learner confidence.
Levels 6 and 7 : Communication strategies and vocabulary-building
- These levels teach students to develop communication strategies and enhance their vocabulary-building skills
- They also help the students progress to higher levels of reading ability
- They are designed to develop oral communication skills and build learner confidence.
Advanced : IELTS-based Program
Levels 8 to 10 : IELTS Training
- IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, is designed to assess the language ability of candidates who want to study or work where English is the language of communication
